Saltwater Fishing

As you cruise past Amphitrite Lighthouse and in to the Barkley Sound, you enter a unique offshore eco system that supports huge schools of bait fish (Herring, Needlefish, Pilchards, Krill, and Squid) that attract and support larger game fish. This rich and thriving environment creates catch opportunities not seen anywhere else on the West Coast.

Long Beach Charters offers a variety of fishing adventures that direct for Chinook salmon, Coho Salmon, Halibut, Snapper and Rock Cod year round. In addition we sometimes set and check Crab and Prawn traps when leaving and returning to Ucluelet Harbour.

Our expert guides have over 30+ years of combined commercial fishing and sport fishing experience and will make sure you come in with your desired catch.

February, March, and April – Fishing provide scenic inshore adventure on the waters of Barkley Sound. You’ll be fishing winter Chinook (8-18 pounds) amongst frolicking gray whales, sea lions, and soaring eagles! An abundance of rockfish and lingcod have accumulated over the winter and 50+ pound halibut have begun their inshore migration.

May and June are the months to venture offshore, stalking Chinook to 20+ pounds and halibut averaging 20 pounds – unless you’re surprised by a “leviathan” hundred-pounder! Coho appear during this period, and continue their run into September and October.

July and August are red-hot months for salmon, and continue to provide excellent halibut adventures. This is when we see the runs of mature Chinook, with fish averaging 35+ pounds and possible “Walter Class” encounters of 50+ pounds.

September is the best month to avoid crowds and enjoy the remaining runs of mature Chinook and Coho. Some of the biggest Chinook and Coho (15+ pounds) can be caught at this time. Halibut continue to offer opportunities.

October to January can bring stormy weather. But there are still winter Chinook to be found. So if you’re the rugged type, or you can’t manage a getaway any other time of year, we’re open for business!

Before departure from the dock you must provide proof and a printed copy of your individual Tidal Waters Fishing License for British Columbia and obtained Salmon Stamp.

This can be done so at The Department of Fisheries and Oceans website https://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/licence-permis/application-eng.html

Or in Ucluelet at the Grey Whale Deli open summer hours 6:00 AM- 4:00 PM for an additional service fee of $10.00
